Contribution to the study of the Caiuá Formation

Abstract

This paper presents data on the stratigraphic position of the Caiuá Formation based on sedimentological analysis of samples taken from a semi-artesian well drilled in Marabá Paulista in the southwestern region of São Paulo State. The data reveal a transitional variation between the Caiuá and Hauro Formation, suggesting the existence of a basal fades of the Hauro Formation between the two. The sedimentological evidences obtained indicate that the Caiuá Formation is beneath the Hauru Formation with the chronostratigraphic consequence confirming the pre-Hauru, cretaceous age attributed to the Caiuá Formation.
