Preliminary geochronological interpretation of the Paraná Basin

Abstract

This paper deals with tectonic structural evolution of the Ponta Grossa, Rio Bonito, Irati, Estrada Nova, Rio do Rasto and Pirambóia Formations. This study is mainly based on geochronological data, taken from a publication of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Projeto Remac Series from Petrobrás S.A. An Rb/Sr isotopic rehomogenization caused by crustal movements with its greatest development in the Triassic-Jurassic Period, is registered in those unities, exept in the Pirambóia Formation. This one also presents this phenomenon which seems to be originated by the basic flows at Jurassic-Cretaceous Period
