Abstract

A regional gravimetric survey, combined with previous geological and structural knowledge provided the necessary information for formulating hypotheses, creating, confirming or improving models , that may have contributed importantly to the evolution of the region of the Pitanga structural high. The study area is located in the lower Corumbatai valley, between the cities of Rio Claro, Ipeúna, Charqueada and Piracicaba (SP) in central-eastern state of São Paulo. Aligned gravimetric signatures and NW-SE trends were identified by Bouguer anomaly and are possibly related to preexisting zones of weakness in basement rocks. Less extensive alignments with NE-SW, E-W and N-S directions are also recognized and related to more recently reactivated faults in the basin. The modeling of the observed values satisfactorily conforms to the known lithostructural framework. The application of the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) method proved to be an important tool for assuring the precision of the data.
