The recurrence of dangerous geodynamic phenomena, intensified by climate change, has increased the scenario of socio-economic and environmental losses and damage to society, impacting various sectors, different communities and the population in a specific or generalized way. This scenario led Derbyana to launch a Thematic Section dedicated to “Disaster Risk Management”, which is being launched in this volume.
Coordinated by Dr. Ricardo Vedovello, geologist and scientific researcher at the Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais (IPA) of the State of São Paulo, the Section aims to create a space for the dissemination and discussion of articles covering the entire spectrum related to Disaster Risk Management (DRM), including thematic cartography, methodologies, analytical procedures, the formulation and application of public policies, technological advances and innovations, and the identification of needs and perspectives for the evolution of the theme. The aim is to gather and welcome contributions related to: risk identification and analysis tools; monitoring and area management techniques and technologies; defining and obtaining risk indicators and critical thresholds; early warning and alert systems; structural and non-structural mitigation techniques; interfaces with public policies on civil protection and defense, housing, transport, education, tourism and public health; among others.
The articles portray the state of the art on the subject and will constitute an important reference for future research, which can guide guidelines for risk and disaster management and, consequently, contribute to the prevention, management and mitigation of risks and disasters.
